Students wishing to apply for Undergraduate or Bachelor’s degree in Germany need to complete thirteen years of education to be eligible to apply for the degree. International students with a high school degree (12th Std) do not qualify for a Bachelor’s Degree in Germany. Hence, a one-year Foundation Course or Studienkolleg as it is popularly called is mandatory for International students. After which they must appear for the assessment test to qualify for Bachelor studies at any university in Germany. This certificate in recognized by all German Public Universities (TU9) and Universities of Applied Science (Fachhochschule or Hochschule), across Germany. On passing from Studienkolleg, students are guaranteed free admission to a university of applied sciences or TU9 of their choice.

Students can apply for Technical (T) courses to study a technical program or Wirtschaft (W) course to study an Economy-oriented course or for Arts & Humanities (G), and for Medical (M).

The tuition fees for Studienkolleg is about INR15 Lakh which is divided into – Foundation Year course cost of € 9,900 and Blocked Account (living cost) of approx. €8,640. This includes, airport pickup, German Language Training- A2 -C1 and Studienkolleg preparation.

While IELTS, TOEFL or knowledge of German language are not pre-requisites to getting admission, those wishing to pursue higher education in Germany must have secured good grades in 10th and 12th standard. (I.B and other boards are recognized). However, certain institutes conduct Mathematics’ exams, at entrance for admission into English taught Studienkolleg. Extracurricular activities like sports, drama etc. are much welcomed and given due weightage.

Students wishing to apply to Studienkolleg must apply while in the 11th grade and need not wait till after the results to apply. As entrance for the same starts six months prior to the date of the examination. Though, students wishing to study in Germany do not have to appear for an entrance examination.
